The Challenge
In many rural and township areas across South Africa, access to fast and reliable internet remains limited—not due to lack of infrastructure, but due to a service delivery gap. Fibre Network Operators (FNOs) have laid down the fibre lines, but few service providers have extended operations into these underserved regions. The result: a digital divide that hinders education, economic growth, and connectivity in communities that need it most.
The Solution by Unswerve IT Services
We partnered with EaziConnect to build a custom digital platform enabling fibre internet sales directly to residents in these communities. The platform does more than process transactions—it empowers locals.
Through an innovative community-based model:
- Local residents are recruited and trained to sell fibre connections door-to-door.
- These agents earn a recurring commission from the monthly fees paid by subscribers.
- Agents are also equipped with technical training to handle first-line support and basic troubleshooting.
This approach created a scalable, human-powered network of micro-entrepreneurs who not only earn income but also extend digital infrastructure reach where traditional models have failed.
The Outcome
- Increased Fibre Adoption: Within the first few weeks, uptake in trial communities exceeded expectations.
- Local Job Creation: Community agents began earning income while gaining tech skills.
- Reduced Support Costs: First-line support handled locally decreased EaziConnect’s support overhead.
- Brand Trust: Community presence increased EaziConnect’s reputation and trust with residents.
Why It Matters
This project demonstrates how a well-designed digital platform, combined with community empowerment, can bridge the digital divide and stimulate grassroots economic growth.
